Hi,
Long time no see. I would like to talk about a topic that is important to me and I think this topic is relevant now, and was important in the past.
When I was a kid I thought that I could do whatever I wanted when I’ll grow up. I wanted to be a Pilot after some time I wanted to be a Policeman, spy, agent doctor, athlete, etc. It is nice to have dreams and everybody has to have something that he wants to achieve in the future, not only children but adults should have some dreams too. Life is about dreaming and about having some goals that push us. Without dreams, life does not make sense to me.
The main reason why I created this article is that I think that dreams/goals are really important in every period of life because they create our life more interesting. After all, we are thirsty to achieve something, but people should recognize what they are capable of at the right time.
What I mean
In this era of social media, we have a lot of advertisements where some companies or solo GURUs try to sell us some courses or videos about how to be successful in some field. They are telling us something like after this course you will be a successful broker, software developer, designer, copywriter, etc. The question is, Can everybody be a good singer, software developer, architect, or psychiatrist? My answer is yes, almost everyone can be good enough in every field to get a job. But the question is why should I do something that doesn’t suit me? I think the main reason is money. I see a lot of people trying to be a software engineer, but they are not good enough. I mean everybody should try to learn how to code. But if you learn programming basics and theory like what is SOLID, what is singleton, etc. It will help you in your future as a software engineer, but that’s not everything. You should be able to be a good problem solver, you have to have critical thinking, some creativity, be good at investigation, etc. The main idea which is in my head is, that everybody should try what you want to learn, because you will regret this in the future. But if you will feel, that it is not natural what you do and you feel uncomfortable you should stop doing this. I see a lot of people who want to be software developers for several years, but I see that these people are not happy in this field. And sometimes they are fired from the companies very quickly. A similar issue is if people don’t recognize the issue with fields that don’t suit them while studying something. Some people want to be a doctor, but they are fired from school several times. Why should I try to be somebody if I am not able to pass school?
It is not an easy topic and it’s natural for people, that we want to achieve something, have a well-paid job, etc. I realized during my life that the IT industry suits me well. Mainly software development because I like problem-solving, creating something, etc. Everybody should find something which like. E.g.: somebody loves kids and maybe working with kids is the best idea for them, another person is good at working with people and working with people could make him happy.
If you are lost and you don’t know what you want to do maybe the best idea is to try to do more things and you will find the best job which suits you. Don’t do some jobs only because of money. You will hate that job and you have to realize that you spend at work 8 hours a day. It is 1/3 of the day. You should like what you do.
